The water boiler is an integral part of what keeps your home comfortable. We rely on it for heat from our radiators, hot water for our showers / taps and those occasional long lazy baths! Whether your boiler is oil or gas fired, it will require maintenance and servicing once in a while (typically once a year) to avoid problems / breakdowns.

A well maintained boiler can give many years of service before needing to be replaced, but if your boiler has reached the end of the line we can arrange to install a new one for you. We will endeavour to troubleshoot any boiler issues that you’re having first though, and if possible will repair the existing boiler.

Boiler Types

A condenser (or high efficiency) boiler are water heaters which are extremely efficient when compared to a traditional non-condensing boiler. Typically condenser boilers can be up to 98% efficient when compared to non-condenser boilers which are typically 70 – 80% efficient at best.

In a conventional oil or gas fired boiler, fuel is burned and the hot gases produced are passed through a heat exchanger where much of their heat is transferred to water, thereby heating it.

One of the side effects of this process is steam – and in a traditional boiler this potential heat energy is lost through the boilers’ flue*.

A condenser boiler extracts this extra heat from the waste gases by condensing this water vapour to liquid water, recovering its latent heat of vaporization.

A condenser boiler will typically use up to 30% less energy thereby considerably reducing your heating bill. Any new boilers installed in Ireland must now be condensing boilers.

* A flue is a duct for smoke and waste gases produced by a fire, a gas heater, a power station, or other fuel-burning installation. Think of it as your boilers’ exhaust pipe.
