Gas Leaks

Natural Gas povides a convenient, safe and economical way to heat our homes and cook our meals. However, in much the same way as water pipes can be damaged, the pipes carrying gas into and around your home can be damaged also, resulting in a gas leak.

If you suspect you have a gas leak, the first thing you should do evacuate your home / premises and notify your gas supplier. In the Republic of Ireland you should contact Bord Gáis 24-hour Emergency Response Service regardless of who your gas supplier is.

If you smell gas please call one of the following numbers:
  • Customers in the Republic of Ireland should call 1850 20 50 50.
  • Customers in Northern Ireland should call 0800 002 001.

Typically if the gas leak occurs inside the home, it will be the responsibility of the home owner to have the leak repaired. Should your gas supplier arrive as a result of a reported gas leak within the home it is likely that they will turn off the gas supply and lock the meter until the leak has been identified and repaired by an RGI qualified plumber.
